School Heads Defy Ministry of Education School Fees Guidelines Despite Punishment Threat By TSC.

School principals have continued to charge extra levies, against the recently issued ministry of education 2021 school fees guidelines. This is despite The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) directing them to stick to the stipulated guidelines and avoid burdening parents with unnecessary levies.

Trans Nzoia Parents Association chairperson Wellington Waliaula is now calling on the ministry of education to investigate schools heads who are charging extra levies, against the recently issued ministry of education 2021 school fees guidelines.

"We have received complaints that some principals are demanding for extra fees in the name of motivation or remedial fees, such principals should be brought to book," he said.

Last week, Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia warned that the commission will punish school heads flouting fees guidelines as it carries out an investigation on some teachers over the issue.

"The TSC is investigating a few allegations that some teachers are not complying with Government directives on fees. Action will be taken on those found culpable," CEO Nancy Macharia said.

Following multiple complaints and decrees from parents bearing the brunt of the deteriorating economy in the country occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government reduced secondary school fees by 8,500 shillings less.

This means national schools will now pay 45,054 shillings while extra county and county schools will pay 35,035 shillings.

"I want to direct that all heads of schools take to STP rated school fees. Some teachers are not complying with government directives directive on fees. action will be taken on those fields if they are found culpable." Said Macharia.
