Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has fired a warning over the misuse of the KSh1.9 billion stimulus package that was lately disclosed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The stimulus package is meant to support the schools in the manufacture of primary desks and secondary schools tables and chairs.
Magoha noted the speculation going round that over the capital meant for the furniture could end up in the pockets of some cartels. Magoha has assured the nation that in his watch scandal would grill in the ministry under his watch as the Cabinet Secretary.
Magoha promised to ensure that that all desks are sent to schools. He cautioned individuals who may attempt to conspire with artisans to illegally gain from the funds that it is only the Jua Kali artisans who prove with records will be hired.
“There are mandarins who are trying to manufacture chairs in the darkroom hoping that they will approach and seduce the Jua kali people," Magoha warned.
The selected secondary and primary schools supplied with 0 to 70 desks each respectively. The sub-county commissioner will assume the role of procuring and distributing the chairs. Schools to benefit will be selected according to wards.
Professor Magoha was speaking during the press release by the Education Response Committee led by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) chairlady Sara Ruto.
